DOEN

A place for everything you need to do.

DOEN is a fast, private to-do app for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch, with a web version for any computer. Plan your day, set reminders by time or by place, and tick things off.

We got sick of outdated apps that couldn't keep up. So we skipped the complaining and built our own.

Everything has its place.

DOEN follows the way you already plan, and leaves room to do it your way.

Inbox, Today, Upcoming, Anytime
Sort your work by when you will do it. Give a to-do a Date and it turns up on the right day. Finished to-dos move to Log.
Areas, projects and headings
Group lists the way your life is grouped. Projects show their progress and split into sections with headings.
Up to five alerts per reminder
Be reminded at the time, 5, 10, 15 or 30 minutes before, or at any custom time up to 12 hours ahead. Set your favourite alerts once as the default. Every alert has Complete and Snooze buttons (10 minutes, 1 hour, 3 hours or tomorrow at 09:00), on your iPhone and in the browser, so you can deal with it without opening the app.
Reminders by place
Get a nudge when you arrive at or leave a place. Search for an address or use where you are right now.
Your calendar, alongside
Events appear above your to-dos in Today and Upcoming, and you choose which calendars to show. Turn on auto-import and each event becomes a to-do you can edit, with notes, checklists and tags. You can also have DOEN add your reminders to a calendar you choose, so they show in the Calendar app at the reminder time. DOEN only changes the events it adds.
Tones and alert styles
Pick a tone for each reminder. Choose Tone only for a gentle sound with nothing on screen, good for breaks and mindfulness. Choose Persistent for meetings and deadlines: it breaks through Focus, lights the screen and repeats until you act.
Repeat on the days you choose
Make a to-do repeat every day, or only on the days you pick, such as Monday to Friday for "Stock market opens", in one repeat. Type a reminder time like 11am instead of scrolling a wheel, and duplicate any to-do instead of starting from scratch.
Habits
Type a habit in plain words, such as "Drink water every 2 days at 8am, 4pm". Tick it each time you do it, see the last seven days at a glance and build a streak. Give it a start date and an optional end date, and add one or more reminder times. It appears in Today on its start date and nudges you on the days it is due. Habits stay in step across iPhone, Mac and the web.
A Today that shows what you choose
Today can show your to-dos, today's habits, projects that start or are due today, and notes you pin to today. Choose what appears and DOEN remembers it on every device.
Share by link
Share a project, an area or a note with a link. People need no account to open it. You decide whether they can only look, or tick things off, add items and edit a note. Stop sharing at any time.
Works with Claude and other AI assistants
DOEN speaks MCP, so an assistant you trust can read your to-dos, add new ones and tick them off, with the same token and permissions as the API. See how to connect.
Apple Reminders, both ways
Keep DOEN and the Reminders app in step. New items, titles, notes, dates and done status flow in both directions, and you choose whether DOEN or Reminders sends the alert, so you never get two. On iPhone, File by Reminders list files each reminder in a project named after its list.
Moving from another app
Import your to-dos from Things 3, Todoist, TickTick, Google Tasks or Apple Reminders on the web at app.doen.software. Projects, headings, checklists, tags, dates and repeats come across. You see a preview first, and one Undo reverses the whole import. Things 3 uses a small export script for your Mac.
Email and webhooks
DOEN gives you a private address. Email a to-do to it, or send one from Shortcuts, Zapier or n8n with a webhook. New items land in Today tagged Email or Webhook, and you can add your own tags and file them into an area or project.
An API for your own tools
Switch it on and your scripts and automations can read your to-dos and, if you allow it, add and change them. Your phone stays in charge, and turning it off deletes the copy. Read the API instructions.
Widgets and Siri
Tick off to-dos from the Today widget. Ask Siri to add a to-do or read out your list, on your iPhone or your watch. In Shortcuts, Add To-Do can set a project or area, heading, start date, deadline, reminder, tags, notes and a checklist, and there are actions to add a project and to get the to-dos in a list.
On your wrist
The Apple Watch app shows Today and Anytime, lets you tick things off and add a to-do by dictation or scribble, and works without your phone nearby. Add a watch face complication for your Today count, or ask Siri on the watch.
Add emails from Gmail
Coming soon: open any email in Gmail and add it to DOEN from the side panel. The subject becomes the title, with a link back to the email, and you pick when it is due and which project it goes in. You can choose a default project, and you connect it with the same one time code as DOEN on the web.
DOEN on the web
Use all of DOEN in any browser at app.doen.software: lists, projects, headings, tags, checklists, notes, pictures, repeats and reminders. Switch it on in the iPhone app, connect with a one time code, and changes sync both ways within seconds while DOEN is open on your iPhone. When the app is closed, iOS decides how often it checks. Browser notifications alert you at reminder times while a DOEN tab is open, with Complete and Snooze buttons.
Organise your way
Drag to reorder to-dos in any list on iPhone, iPad, Mac and the web. On the Mac and the web, drag a to-do onto a project or area in the sidebar to file it, or out again to another list. Inbox, Upcoming, Anytime and your own lists sort by date, then reminder time, then your own order, until you drag. The Organise List menu (the arrows button) brings back date and time order, or groups the list by area, on every device. Tags sit under your areas and projects in the sidebar, and open the Tag manager. Give a tag a colour and its to-dos show a thin bar of that colour at the left. The Tag manager lets you rename, recolour, merge and delete tags in one place. Select several to-dos at once to move, tag, reschedule or complete them together. Filing a Today to-do into an area asks whether to keep it in Today or move it out. A reminder on a later day asks whether to move the to-do to that day. The first time you open Today each day, it can sort itself by time. Lists, areas and projects have their own colours and icons, the same on every device.
Backup and restore
On the web, Settings has Backup and restore. Download a file called doen-backup-ddmmyy.json at any time, and restore it later to bring back anything missing without touching what is already there. DOEN also warns you before it sends a large batch of deletions to the server, so a sync problem cannot quietly wipe your lists.
Automatic backups with the API
With API access on, a script can fetch a full backup with GET /backup and restore one with POST /restore. Schedule it with cron or Shortcuts and keep your own copies. See the API guide.
Keyboard shortcuts
On the Mac, a menu bar icon shows your Today count and opens a list you can tick off, and you can hide the Dock icon. ⌘N adds a to-do, ⌘K completes, ⌘D duplicates, ⌘F searches, ⌘2 to ⌘6 jump between lists, and ⇧⌘/ shows them all. Control Option N adds a to-do even when another app is in front. Change that shortcut in Settings. Two more shortcuts can add a to-do into an area you choose. They start off. On the web, add a to-do with N, search and run commands with Ctrl or Cmd K, jump between lists with G then T, U, A, S or L, and tick, move, reschedule and reorder without touching the mouse. Press ? for the full list. Type naturally and DOEN picks out the date, time, tags and project, as in "Call Sam tomorrow at 5pm #family". In Settings, a default area receives new to-dos and notes when you have not already chosen a list.
A badge that counts what you choose
Show everything due today on the app icon, or only what is overdue or has no time set. The number keeps up even when the app is closed.
Magic Plus
Tap the plus button to add a to-do. Drag it into your list to place a new one exactly where it belongs.
Notes and pictures
Write notes on a to-do, with formatting, and add pictures. There is also a Notes list under Log for writing of its own, with pictures and files. Paste text or a picture from the clipboard. On the Mac, delete a note from the note itself or by right clicking it. Notes and files travel between your iPhone, Mac and the browser through DOEN on the web. They are not stored in iCloud.
Quick Find
Search every list from one place. On iPhone, pull down or tap the magnifier. On Mac, press ⌘F. On the web, press Ctrl or Cmd K.
Checklists, tags and repeats
Break a to-do into steps, label it, and repeat it daily, weekly, monthly or yearly, on a schedule or from the day you finish it.
Light, dark and private
Paper white or soft charcoal, as you prefer. Your lists stay on your device and in your own iCloud unless you switch on the API or DOEN on the web. Pictures travel only through DOEN on the web, not iCloud. Nothing you write is sent to analytics. The app has no ads, and anonymous usage statistics can be switched off in Settings.
